Metaphil earns ASME certification
Monday, March 21, 2011

Metaphil International, Inc., represented by August Dacanay(AVP for Quality/Safety), and Zeny Novabos (CIO & vice president), receive the ASME audit report from ASME representative Jung Woo Park and TUV-Rheinland Seneca's Shih Ming Yen.

Metaphil International, Inc. has been recommended by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to be issued the prestigious ASME Certification, a requirement being sought by international companies especially those based in Europe.

Metaphil’s ASME certificates and stamps cover U, U2 (both for the manufacture of pressure vessels) and S (manufacture and assembly of power boilers) and The National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors’ certificate and stamp “R” (repairs and alterations of pressure-retaining items).

Expanding to the west side of Cebu, particularly in Balamban, Metaphil invested in 2008 in a world-class fabrication and outloading facility worth over P700 million. Management is confident of the company’s capability to make more sales internationally.

“Now, let’s take this to the market and get the business,” said Chairman Roberto Aboitiz in congratulating the team.

The Metaphil ASME team was led by assistant vice president for quality and safety August Dacanay and the review team was composed of Jung Woo Park (ASME), Shih Ming Yen and Carl Francen, both from TUV–Rheinland Seneca.

Just like an ISO certification, the ASME certification is proof of the company’s adherence to global quality standards and its commitment to its customers, its workers and its business partners.

“Metaphil continues to show its commitment to deliver on the promise of construction, fabrication and engineering reliability, integrity, safety and quality,” said President and CEO Napoleon Pe, Jr.

Metaphil International, a PEZA enterprise with a 10.5-hectare facility in Arpili, Balamban, is also ISO 9001:2008 certified.  It is owned and managed by the Aboitiz Construction Group, Inc., which has over 30 years experience in construction, fabrication, engineering and project management services.   The company contributes to the country’s industrial growth and provides jobs and good training for over 4,000 workforce.

Ongoing projects of Metaphil International include the fabrication and modularization of OnQuest USA waste heat recovery units in Australia; piping fabrication of the TJCP joint venture for the Taganito high-pressure acid leaching project mechanical works in Surigao; fabrication of thickener bridges and feed mechanism for Outotec Pty Ltd also in Surigao; and, the recurring hull fabrication work for Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (Cebu), Inc. in Balamban, Cebu.
