What is a carbon calculator?
The Aboitiz carbon calculator computes the carbon emission generated from electricity consumption, land and air travels.
Carbon emission is the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) that is emitted to the atmosphere from consumption of electricity and fuel while traveling.
The excessive amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is considered the reason for global warming. Global warming has caused uncertainty in weather patterns resulting to sea level rise and destructive typhoons.
Awareness on how much emission is generated from electricity and land and air travels will guide the users on how best to manage and reduce their emissions.
How to use the calculator:
For electricity:
1. Input kilowatt-hour (kWh) consumption. Data source is your electricity bill.
2. Specify your location (Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao or specify VECO if your in their franchise area in Cebu)
For commuting:
For distance based approach:
1. Input the estimated distance traveled (kilometers per day)
2. Input the type of vehicle used (typically used)
For fuel based approach:
Use the distance based approach if you know the distance you frequently travel on a daily basis.
If you commute by jeepney or taxi, you can estimate the distance from the typically fare amount that you pay. For example, if you pay P 7 fare per jeepney trip, that is roughly equivalent to a 4 kilometer distance. For every additional peso added, compute the corresponding kilometers.

For air travel:
Use the fuel based approach if you know the amount of fuel consumed on a given trip and the type of fuel used.
1. Input the whether trip is for domestic or international
2. Input the type of trip of whether one way or round trip
3. Input the distance of the trip
4. Input the number of trips made per year
What do the results mean?
Electricity emissions – the number of tons of carbon dioxide emitted from electricity consumption
Annual commuting emissions – the number of tons of carbon dioxide emitted from land-based commuting computed on an annual basis
Annual air travel emissions – the number of tons of carbon dioxide emitted from air related travels computed on an annual basis
A total of the carbon emission is also computed together with an estimate on the number of trees needed to offset the emissions.
